Any artist who raps about the joys of duck prosciutto and Tunisian olives is bound to stick out from the continuous stream of Weezy and Cudi impersonators that pepper today’s hip-hop landscape, then again, Action Bronson is nothing if not unique. The son of Albanian and Jewish parents he trained as a chef at the Art Institute of New York City’s culinary program, but after seven years sweating in kitchens around NYC he switched recipes for rhymes and put out a rapturously received LP titled “Dr. Lecter” earlier this year. His quick and witty flow recalls the vivid lyricism of Ghostface Killah, but Action Bronson’s exuberance is all his own. With a larger than life personality and funky mix of chopped up breakbeats, soul samples and old-school ‘boom-bap’ it’s no surprise Bronson’s music has given him a dedicated live following. Hip-hop head or foodie, this is not one to miss.
